Who Saily is for
Saily arrived in November 2023 as Nord Security’s own eSIM product, built in Vilnius on the same Cyber City campus as NordVPN, NordPass and NordLocker. The ordinary app is a land eSIM covering 200+ destinations, and it is rated around 4.7 out of 5 across tens of thousands of reviews. The Cruise plans sit inside that same app rather than beside it.
The distinction matters more than it sounds. A normal Saily plan rents access to shore networks; a Cruise plan rents access to the satellite and cellular-at-sea system bolted to the ship itself. They are two different products wearing one logo, and Saily says plainly that the ordinary plan cannot stand in for the cruise one once the coast is gone. How Saily holds up at sea
The behaviour takes some getting used to. A Cruise plan stays completely dark alongside the berth and along the coast, then wakes up on its own once the ship passes roughly 12 nautical miles out. Nothing needs switching. The tell that it has worked is the network name: instead of a familiar carrier the phone shows 901-18, WMS or Cellular at Sea. Saily’s support team treats most reported outages as a ship still sitting inside that 12-mile band rather than as a fault, and points people at the GSMA coverage map before they raise a ticket. It is honest, and it is also a reminder that this plan is useless for the half of a cruise spent ashore.

The genuinely useful term is the activation window. A plan bought today can sit unused for 180 days, and the clock only starts the first time the eSIM finds the ship’s maritime network — not the day the card was charged. Buying months ahead therefore costs nothing, which is rare in this market. One thing is worth doing before paying: check the operator list in the app. Coverage is granted per operator across those 200-plus ships. The Cruise section may also not have reached every account yet.

Getting it working before you sail
Everything happens inside the Saily app; there is no cruise-only product sold anywhere else. The verdict for cruise passengers
For anyone whose first question is the price per gigabyte, and who is content to buy a separate eSIM for the ports, Saily Cruise is the cheapest genuine maritime data on sale. It also has a well-funded company behind it and an app a great many travellers already have installed. The trade-offs are real and worth stating plainly. It may not have reached the account yet. It is dead alongside every quay on the itinerary. And coverage is granted operator by operator rather than universally. Checking the ship against the list in the app before paying is not an optional step.
