The GigSky Visa cardholder benefit
Short answer
If you hold a US Visa Infinite card, GigSky gives you 3 GB of free data once a year and 30% off everything else. Visa Signature gets 1 GB and 20% off; Platinum, Gold and Classic get 20% off. It is claimed inside the GigSky app with the Visa set as your default payment method.
The catch nobody mentions: the free allowance is a global land plan. It does not include cruise coverage and will not connect at sea. On a sea day it does nothing at all.
What each card tier gets
| Card tier | Complimentary data (land only) | How often | Discount on paid plans |
|---|---|---|---|
| Visa Infinite | 3 GB over 15 days | Once per calendar year | 30% |
| Visa Signature | 1 GB over 15 days | Once per calendar year | 20% |
| Visa Platinum, Gold, Classic, Traditional | None | — | 20% |
In the US, Canada, Latin America and the Caribbean, the Infinite tiers go further: progressive discounts of 30%, then 40%, then 50%, with one plan purchasable at each level. That is the largest consumer discount on maritime data we are aware of anywhere.
Why the free data will not help on a sea day
This is the reason this page exists. The complimentary allowance is a global land plan covering 175-plus countries. Land plans work by roaming onto national mobile networks — and out at sea there are none. The ship runs its own maritime network, which is a separate product with separate roaming agreements, and the free allowance does not include it.
So the benefit splits cleanly for a cruiser. The free data is a port-day tool: use it ashore, where it is genuinely good and genuinely free. The discount is the part that applies to the cruise plan you actually need for sea days.
How to claim it
- Install the GigSky app. The benefit does not exist on the website.
- Create an account, or sign in to an existing one.
- Add your eligible Visa and set it as the default payment method — this is what GigSky checks against.
- The complimentary plan and the discounted pricing appear at checkout in the app.
- You then have up to 365 days to activate before it auto-activates.
The 365-day window is worth planning around. If you are booking a cruise for next year, you can claim this year’s allowance now and still have it available when you sail.
Visa discount or our code?
We hold an exclusive ESIMDUDE code worth 10% off GigSky cruise and ferry plans, and we would rather tell you when it is the worse deal than watch you overpay.
| Your situation | Use this |
|---|---|
| US Visa Infinite, buying in the app | Visa benefit — 30% beats our 10% |
| US Visa Signature / Platinum / Gold, in the app | Visa benefit — 20% beats our 10% |
| Outside the US | ESIMDUDE — the Visa programme is US-issued cards |
| Paying with a non-Visa card | ESIMDUDE |
| Buying on the web rather than in the app | ESIMDUDE |
| Buying as a gift for someone else | ESIMDUDE |
They cannot be combined — one discount applies at a time, on two different checkouts.
GigSky Visa benefit FAQ
01Does the free GigSky Visa data work on a cruise?+
No. The complimentary allowance that comes with Visa Infinite and Signature is a global LAND plan covering 175+ countries. It does not include cruise coverage and will not connect to a ship’s maritime network at sea. It is genuinely useful in port and does nothing on a sea day — which is the opposite of what most people assume when they claim it.
02Does the Visa discount apply to GigSky cruise plans?+
The discount is advertised as applying to GigSky plans generally, and that is the part of the benefit worth having as a cruiser: 30% off a Cruise + Land plan is a real saving. The complimentary data is the part that excludes cruise. Check the plan type at checkout in the app before you assume the discount has applied to a maritime plan.
03Which Visa cards qualify?+
US-issued Visa Infinite gets 3 GB over 15 days once a year plus 30% off. Visa Signature gets 1 GB over 15 days once a year plus 20% off. Platinum, Gold, Classic and Traditional — including debit and prepaid — get 20% off with no complimentary data. Cardholders in Canada, Latin America and the Caribbean on Infinite tiers can access progressive discounts of 30%, then 40%, then 50%, one plan at each level.
04How do I claim it?+
It only works inside the GigSky app, not on the website. Install the app, create an account, and set the eligible Visa as your default payment method — GigSky verifies eligibility against the card. If you buy on the web with the same card, you do not get the benefit.
05Can I combine the Visa discount with the ESIMDUDE code?+
No. They are two separate mechanisms on two different checkouts and only one applies at a time. Work out which is worth more on the plan you actually want. For a US Visa Infinite holder buying in the app, the 30% wins outright. For everyone else — outside the US, paying with a non-Visa card, or buying on the web — ESIMDUDE is the one that applies.
06How long do I have to activate a plan I have bought?+
Up to 365 days from purchase before it auto-activates. That is unusually generous and genuinely useful if you are booking a cruise months ahead — you can claim the annual allowance now and use it on a sailing next spring.
