Two things that catch people out
Carrier locks. Supported hardware is not enough — a locked phone will refuse a third-party eSIM. Get it unlocked before you sail; it can take a few days.
Data roaming on your primary line. Install the eSIM, set it as your data line, and turn data roaming OFF on your normal SIM. Skip that second step and your phone can quietly roam onto the ship's network at day-pass rates while you sleep.

02Does my phone need to be unlocked?+
Yes. A carrier-locked phone will refuse to install a third-party eSIM even if the hardware supports it. Ask your carrier to unlock it before you travel — it is usually free once the contract terms are met, but it can take a few days.
03Can I keep my normal number while using a cruise eSIM?+
Yes. An eSIM sits alongside your physical SIM, so calls and texts to your usual number still arrive. Set the eSIM as your data line and turn data roaming OFF on your primary line — that combination is what prevents a surprise bill.
04Should I install the eSIM before I board?+
Always. Install and activate while you still have reliable Wi-Fi at home or in the terminal. Installing an eSIM requires a data connection, which is exactly what you will not have once the ship sails.
