Embarkation day is the easy one. Phones behave normally in the terminal and at the berth, because the ship is still sitting inside the local network like any building ashore. That lasts through the safety drill and the first drink on deck. Then the ship clears the harbour, and somewhere around the twelve-mile line the bars quietly go and the phone starts hunting. Only a maritime eSIM does. Any ordinary travel eSIM for Western Caribbean stops working roughly 12 nautical miles from land, when the ship leaves the reach of shore transmitters; from there only a plan that connects to the ship’s own cellular network — GigSky, Saily, Maya and the other at-sea providers listed above — carries data. 02Does a Mexico eSIM cover the whole Western Caribbean?

03Will I have signal on the tender to Grand Cayman?
