GigSky vs Red Bull MOBILE eSIM for cruises
Short answer
This one is decided by your ship, not by price. Red Bull MOBILE has been Telenor Maritime’s exclusive consumer partner since April 2024, which reaches AIDA, Costa, Cunard, P&O Cruises, TUI/Marella and the big European ferry fleets — vessels the Cellular at Sea providers largely miss. GigSky covers 290+ ships on the other side of that split.
Look up your vessel first. Where both cover you, Red Bull’s EUR 5 entry plan is the cheapest way onto a ship network anywhere, and GigSky is the one with a free trial, larger allowances and the ESIMDUDE discount.

Two maritime networks, and your hull is on one of them
Almost every cruise eSIM in this catalogue resells one of two maritime networks, and which one your ship carries is decided by the operator’s equipment contract rather than by anything you can buy. Red Bull MOBILE sits on the Telenor Maritime side of that split. Most of the rest of this site’s at-sea inventory sits on the other.
That makes this the least price-driven comparison on the site. Red Bull publishes named vessels rather than a headline count — eleven AIDA ships, nine Costa, twelve Viking Ocean, four Cunard, seven P&O Cruises, Carnival Firenze and Venezia, plus twelve Stena Line, thirteen DFDS, nine Brittany Ferries and the Color Line, Irish Ferries, Finnlines and Grimaldi fleets. If your ship is on that list and not on GigSky’s, the cheapest plan in the world elsewhere buys you nothing.
So the sequence is: find your ship on both lists, then read the rest of this page. Doing it the other way round is how people end up with an eSIM that never connects.

Red Bull MOBILE eSIM plans
Telenor Maritime exclusive consumer partner since April 2024, covering 150+ named vessels that the Cellular at Sea providers largely miss — AIDA, Costa, P&O, Cunard, TUI/Marella and the Stena, DFDS, Brittany Ferries and Color Line fleets. Its 250 MB plan at EUR 5 is the cheapest way onto a ship network anywhere; the allowances are correspondingly small.
Why a European cruiser is more likely to need Red Bull
The Telenor Maritime fleet skews European in a way the numbers make obvious. AIDA and TUI/Marella are German and British mass-market lines; Costa is Italian; Cunard and P&O Cruises are British; and the ferry list is essentially the North Sea, the Baltic, the Irish Sea and the Channel.
If you are sailing a Mediterranean week on Costa, a Norwegian fjords sailing on AIDA or a Baltic cruise on a line in that group, Red Bull is likely to be the one that covers you — and it may be the only consumer product that does. The same is true on the ferry side, where the Telenor-equipped operators include several of the biggest names crossing to Scandinavia and Ireland.
A North American cruiser on Royal Caribbean, Carnival, Norwegian or Princess is usually looking at the other network, where GigSky’s list is far stronger.
Price of admission versus price per gigabyte
Red Bull’s 250 MB plan at five euros is the lowest price of entry onto a ship network anywhere in this catalogue, and it is a genuinely useful product: enough for a week of messaging discipline, or a way to find out whether the connection on your vessel is usable before committing to more.
The allowances are correspondingly small. Divide five euros by a quarter of a gigabyte and the per-gigabyte figure is nowhere near competitive with a mid-sized GigSky bucket. That is the standard shape of small maritime plans and it is not a criticism — you are buying access, not volume.
The practical read: Red Bull if you want the smallest possible spend or the cheapest way to test a Telenor-equipped hull; GigSky if you actually intend to use data and want the rate to make sense.
What GigSky brings that a fleet list cannot settle
A free 100 MB trial with no card, which on a market this fragmented is the most useful feature any provider offers. It answers the only question that matters before purchase — does my hull connect — and it answers it for nothing.
Larger allowances, Cruise + Land plans that carry port coverage on the same profile, ferry-branded plans, and the ESIMDUDE code for ten per cent. We are paid when you use that code, which is exactly why we have spent three paragraphs above telling you when Red Bull is the right answer instead.
Who should buy which
The answer changes with the itinerary more than with the provider, so this is by traveller rather than by feature.
| If this is you | Buy | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Anyone on AIDA, Costa, Cunard, P&O Cruises or TUI/Marella | Red Bull MOBILE | These are Telenor Maritime hulls. Red Bull names them individually; the Cellular at Sea providers largely do not reach them. |
| A North Sea, Baltic or Irish Sea ferry passenger | Red Bull MOBILE | Its ferry list covers Stena Line, DFDS, Brittany Ferries, Color Line, Irish Ferries and Finnlines by name. |
| A Royal Caribbean, Carnival, Norwegian or Princess passenger | GigSky | The mainstream North American fleets sit on the network GigSky sells, with 290-plus vessels covered. |
| Someone who wants to spend as little as possible | Red Bull MOBILE | EUR 5 for 250 MB is the lowest price of admission onto any ship network we track. |
| Someone who will actually use data at sea | GigSky | Larger buckets, a sane per-gigabyte rate, port coverage on the same profile and a free trial to prove it works first. |
Our verdict
Check your ship first, on both providers’ own vessel lists. On this pairing more than any other, coverage decides the purchase and price is the tiebreak afterwards.
GigSky where both cover you: the trial removes the risk, the allowances are usable, and Cruise + Land handles your port days on the same eSIM.
Red Bull MOBILE where it is the one that reaches your hull — which for AIDA, Costa, Cunard, P&O, TUI/Marella and much of the northern European ferry network, it is. We earn nothing on that recommendation and it is still the right one for those ships.
GigSky vs Red Bull MOBILE eSIM: your questions
01Is Red Bull MOBILE a real eSIM provider?+
Yes. It is a mobile brand operating an eSIM product, and since April 2024 it has been Telenor Maritime’s exclusive consumer partner — which is what gives it access to a cruise and ferry fleet that most eSIM sellers cannot reach. The branding is unusual for this market; the underlying network access is not.
02Which ships does Red Bull MOBILE cover that GigSky does not?+
Broadly, the Telenor Maritime fleet: AIDA, Costa, Viking Ocean, Cunard, P&O Cruises, TUI/Marella, Carnival Firenze and Venezia, plus Stena Line, DFDS, Brittany Ferries, Color Line, Irish Ferries, Finnlines and Grimaldi on the ferry side. Red Bull publishes these as named vessels rather than a count, which makes checking straightforward.
03Is EUR 5 for 250 MB good value at sea?+
As a price of admission, it is the best in the market — nothing else gets you onto a ship network for less. As a rate, no: a quarter of a gigabyte for five euros works out far above what a mid-sized plan costs per gigabyte. Buy it to get online cheaply or to test a hull, not to cover a week of real use.
04Can I use Red Bull MOBILE if I am not in Europe?+
The product is sold to consumers regardless of where you live; what matters is the vessel. If your ship is Telenor Maritime-equipped it works whoever you are, and if it is not, being in Europe does not help. The European skew is in the fleet list, not in the eligibility.
05Which one should I buy if my ship is on both lists?+
GigSky, unless you specifically want the smallest possible spend. Install its free 100 MB first to confirm the connection, then size a plan against your actual need. If all you want is to send messages home once a day and pay as little as possible for the privilege, Red Bull’s entry plan does that for five euros.
